Innovative AI Mobile Cloud Classroom by Bachelor Program in Industrial Artificial Intelligence of Ming Chi University of Technology
The Ming Chi University of Technology, given the global groundbreaking growth in artificial intelligence talents, has launched the “Bachelor Program in Industrial Artificial Intelligence” and to facilitate their studies without constraints in terms of physical space and time, each student will be provided with a Microsoft Surface Pro 8 tablet to allow them to connect to the AI Computing Data Center of the Program anytime, anywhere for programming operations.
In 2022, with the boom of AI drawing robots and AI chatbots, the general public has become more aware of the applications of "artificial intelligence". In fact, in the fields of science, technology and industry such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, semiconductors, and computer components, the integration of artificial intelligence into research and development has been a pressing need. For such reason, Ming Chi University of Technology has established the Center for Artificial Intelligence & Data Science in 2019 to undertake artificial intelligence-related industry-academia collaborative projects, and launched the “Bachelor Program in Industrial Artificial Intelligence” in the academic year 2022, which aims to teach the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and foster integration with various industries (X) to cultivate interdisciplinary talents of AI+X. After graduation, the students of the Program will have several clearly-developed careers to choose from, and they are required to work on projects as from the 2nd semester of their freshman year, to solve the gap between theory and practical applications.
With the advancement of technological development and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on physical classroom education, the AI teaching team at the University has invested tremendous funds to create mobile computing devices for students to share the resources of the AI Computing Data Center, specifically the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 tablets, with which the students can access computing resources via the cloud. This will enable them to engage in hands-on activities, participate in project competitions, conduct research and practice programming at any time, in any classroom or dormitory, as if there is always a "cloud classroom for independent studying" making learning more flexible while enhancing future competitiveness of students.
Currently, the AI Computing Data Center of the University has three sets of NVIDIA DGX-1 systems (each containing eight NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs), nine sets of DELL R740 servers (each containing three NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs), two sets of DELL R750 servers (each containing three NVIDIA Tesla A100 GPUs), one set of TYAN Thunder HX FT77D-B7109 server (containing eight GeForce RTX2080Ti GPUs), sixty sets of WinFast GS1020S workstations (each containing one GeForce RTX2080 GPU), one AI computer laboratory, and one AI war room. Each student is equipped with one Microsoft Surface Pro 8 tablet, which provides them with the most powerful computing support by sparing no effort to cultivate more top AI talents.
